Papi's late for lunch by Annalee Papi's late for lunch by Annalee
I tried to make a pic where I could totally ignore perspectives and shading... that was not as easy as I thought it would be. But I like the result.

hope you like it too

There's just something about the slightly deranged story-book illustration style of *Annalee's artwork that just appeals to me on so many levels. Take a look at Papi's late for lunch and see for yourself. ( Featured by MPsai )

This is so incredibly creepy, but more importantly so incredibly well drawn
It's perfect - from the stain on wallpaper to the browning of the back of the oven, as they do. The hair, furnature..it's so impressive, I can't stress enough how much I think of your skill.
Perhaps a mistake - the icecubes in the jug are sitting on the bottom, when icecubes float.
Almost reminds me of an egyptian hyrogliphic (sp?)
What talent! :D

Thanks. You are right, the icecubes should float, I didn't think of that.

I just love all the small details you fit in. The distortion in the wallpaper, the mother's stray wisps of hair, the drip coming from the straw, the way the cushion on the empty chair is slid forward a bit and hanging a little, the peace sign magnet on the stove that's stuck on crooked... even the way the table cloth is hanging. The one thing that DID get me was the ice in the lemonade pitcher. It's not floating. Was this intentional? The entire piece of art is very interesting, overall. I very much like it. I'm a realism lover and I don't often take a keen liking to symbolism art, but this just grabbed me by the eyeballs. Great work.

How did you do the wal paper????
Reply
:iconannalee:
Annalee Featured By Owner Mar 29, 2005  Professional Digital Artist
Well, the wall paper was actually quite easy to do. I found a sample of a 70s wall paper in the internet and made it into a pattern. I changed the colours and stuff but I didn't make the original piece.

I love the static quality and the sanguine color poised with olive green add to the creeped out feeling. Kinda like a rebirth of the tv show "Good Times" meets "Tales From the Crypt" in a cartoon.
I'm not sure if you realise but you have still created a sense of perspective with overlapping - figure in front of table, napkin in front of table in front of sleeping kid. I do really like that the perspective is not overly dramatic. Seems very classy that way.
Pardon my notice of ethnicity but it seems to be a woman of color cooking a white man's foot. Is there some subtle political messege here? Death to the white father? Whitey must die perhaps? :) ) Just a thought...........

Thanks. No, there is absolutely no political message. Although "death to the white father" sounds like an interesting slogan.

I is tough to draw like that. A lot of people say that you have to ”think like a four-year-old” to draw on a flat plane. Whatever you did to retain sanity while drawing this, you’ve done a great job. The subject matter is morbidly cute. ^^

I love it! It's creepy and kind of woo hoo! I know someone already said this, but it does have a very '70s vibe to it. The colors and the style remind me very much of the '70s. I like how subtly strange it is. Like it could be any sunny afternoon, Americanna scene until you notice the foot in the pot. Good stuff. It tickles me on so many levels.
